A Sioux Falls "city" kid turned farm girl when she moved to rural Worthing, SD at age 10. Jacquie grew up on the softball fields of SE South Dakota, graduated from Lennox High School, attended college at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, IA, and later completed her master's degree at Portland State University in Portland, OR. She was very involved in student activities throughout, especially those focused on service and advocacy.
Jacquie served two terms in AmeriCorps, and her first "big kid" job was working at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where she worked for seven years. She currently is employed in the Extension Center for Youth Development at the University of Minnesota.
Jacquie enjoys being involved in social justice and community development projects as well as youth-related organizations like HOBY. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, riding her bicycle, balloon twisting, exploring craft breweries, and both spontaneous and planned traveling.
Dan grew up between the small towns of Remsen and Marcus, IA. He was an active kid, participating in various sports, the Boy Scouts, and working as a hired hand on neighboring farms.
Dan graduated from MMC High School and spent the next nine years in Vermillion, SD as a Computer Science undergrad/grad student and full-time employee at the University of South Dakota. In college, he was very involved in campus and community organizations like the SAE Fraternity, Dance Marathon, and the local cycling club. In 2010, Dan left USD to partner in a business building websites called Web Concentrate.
Taking full advantage of the freedom in self employment, Dan has spent the last three years on a somewhat nomadic wander through SD, OR, and MN. In his spare time he enjoys visiting coffee shops, breweries, and bike lanes all across the Twin Cities.
If you know Jacquie and Dan, you know there's always more to their story. But for the sake of brevity, here's the abbreviated version of how they became a couple.
The first of their interactions began while working at USD. Jacquie had asked a colleague for some recommendations of people who might be interested in creating a website for a youth leadership organization she was involved with (HOBY). The colleague recommended Dan, so Jacquie reached out and he declined! BUT, he did refer someone and offered to volunteer at another time if needed. The need came later that year during the organization's annual seminar.
At the post-seminar cook-out, they realized they lived right across the street from each other and started hanging out more often. Jacquie would frequent Dan's place for summer barbecues, movie nights, "Mama Letsche" pumpkin bars, and freezie dates.
While others suggested for years that they would make a cute couple, they continued with the "just friends" reply whenever asked. Four years after they first met, following an unforgettable Halloween party with friends, Dan asked "does everyone tell you we should be together?" Jacquie replied, "yeah, do they ask you that, too?" And Dan said, "yeah... so why aren't we together?" And the rest is, as they say, history!
While living in Portland, OR, Jacquie and Dan started a weekly tradition of hiking and biking throughout the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
On an otherwise normal weekend hike (through Forest Park's Wildwood Trail on February 19, 2012), Dan commented on how fun their hikes were and asked if she’d like to keep doing them for a while. Jacquie, with a smirk on her face sarcastically replied, "maybe for a couuuuple more years".
Dan (not normally quick with replies), responded perfectly with "how about a lot longer than that?" and got down in the spot you see here and proposed. And yes, this is the exact spot. Jacquie didn't even move her feet.
After an excited "yes" (and some mushy stuff), Dan scrambled to carefully place some twigs and set a self timer. Their adventure-worn camera held it together just long enough to snap this one last photo - definitely the best one of all.

Casual and comfortable dress is encouraged. Nice jeans and un-tucked dress shirts are completely ok! If you want to get fancy, you're welcome to that too - just come in whatever's comfortable. Also note that, weather permitting, our ceremony will be outside so you may want to keep an eye on the weather.
There will be a free bus from the Holiday Inn to and from Calico Skies. The bus will begin boarding at 4:45pm and depart at 5:00pm (promptly - we’re VERY excited to get married :)). The bus will return later in the night between 10 and 11pm. All wedding guests are welcome to ride (hotel stay is not required). The week of, an email with final details will be sent to all guests who expressed interest.
For guests not traveling through Sioux Falls, we also have a block of rooms in Beresford, SD.

Sadly, you might not be able to make it. Be it ability to travel, other commitments, or the unfortunate fact we couldn't invite every amazing person that's touched our lives over the years. But that doesn't mean you can't share in the day! We'll be recording the ceremony, and wifi/cellular-data permitting, will try streaming it here. Check back around 5:45pm on October 26th and you'll (hopefully) see a video available here. If not, we'll post the video later.
Gifts aren't necessary, but if you really want to...
This spring we unexpectedly lost an amazing mom. While moving forward has been incredibly difficult, we've found some comfort that she was able to help us prepare for our special day. She traveled the countryside helping us pick our location, and unknowingly (through a not-so-hidden Pinterest board), had a hand in picking Jacquie's dress.
Perhaps most meaningfully, she was still able to help with catering our reception having already purchased some of the food and supplies in excitement for the big day. There is no doubt the day will be difficult without mom there in person, but we know that huge, contagious smile of hers will be shining down on us that day. There will be many parts of our celebration that will still have mom's touch.
